boston built diablo

that may not be entirely true, but a few very generous Bostonians are making my diablo build that much better.

KHZ Daniel was very kind and sent some sidecovers my way. Handybikes was only selling the right side cover, so that was no good. I emailed Daniel regarding his spare covers from his amazing diablo build, and he was more than happy to part with them and send them my way.

Old mopedhead Ben, now a boston resident was also very kind in lending to the power supply of my derbi (possibly unknowingly at the time). Some kid bought his red Maxi N with a metra 80 and proceeded to seize it very soon after. Ben thought the cylinder was dead and sent it to me, giving me a shot at its rebirth. I’m pretty confident it will blast again.

So the c5 is slowly coming together with the help from many. I still need to order a few more decals and other misc. bits from Handybikes, and I also need to find somewhere to get the seat reupholstered (as well as flatten out the seat pan). So while its coming together slowly, the project is moving ahead. Seals are in route for the motor, but the crank is still a situation. I’ll figure it all out soon enough.

on tuesday a squid came and took away my first derbi. It was a really fun bike, but I’m moving up to the c5, so it was time for it to go. I look forward to seeing its next incarnation. I’m sure it’ll be a blaster.

My diablo stuff was also taken to Motomatic for powder. The build is going slower than I had hoped, but thats not a huge deal. Its going to be a nice bike when done and I’m not going to rush it.

not mine, but my buddy’s. He’s back from italy for the holidays so we cruised around town today. I dunno about the forks, but the rest is real pretty. Mint style. 70 alukit (flat exhaust), malossi 4 petal, phbg, and a sweet scoot leo vince exhaust custom welded on there. Ultimate pedal clearance and uber steez. Does 45-50 and gets there pretty quick.

In other news, I’ve almost completed pulling my derbi cases apart. Everything looks mostly ok, except there seems to be a fair amount of slack in the inner chain and the lower end of my connecting rod has blued from high heat at the big end bearing. It seemed to run fine, so I’m not 100% sure what I should do, cause I don’t want it to lock up on me.

Teardown finished today. I also pulled its motor off the variant, and began getting that ready to pull apart and clean, etc. The only thing not done is separating the forks. I’m not exactly sure what to do, but I think I need a really long extension to get down in the tube to unbolt. Can anyone confirm?

Check out these funny studs on the c5. They are all mini, with long sleeves that run through the cylinder.

Picked up a pipe (kx80 wheelie-master craziness) and the cylinder (65cc stock bored out). It needs slight modification to fit perfect, but its already pretty close. I need to get crazy with the porting.

Still lots to do, but as things come apart and together, it seems to get better.

Justin told me my blog is boring, I don’t like that. Is my blog boring? If so, how can I enhance your reading/viewing experience? More pictures? Less words? Naked girls? Let me know!

Picked up my wheels today, I got some fatty tires. They are pretty heavy, so I need to make some good power to get this thing going. I got a bored out stock cylinder (65cc or so), and a kx80 pipe that’s going to fit beautifully. I dunno if it will be enough to go super fast, but we’ll see. Sorry, no photos today.

Not much today, just went down to the cycle shop and ordered some tires, Shinko SR241. 2.75×21 front, 3.50×18 rear. They should be in, and mounted (by them!) on friday. Not the craziest tires, but very close to the original michelins. Tires are expensive!

This is a C4, very similar, but a shifter instead of variated with pedals. This confirms my future ability to hit sweet jumps!

Teardown started. Going to get tires this week, tank and forks and other bits to powder next, and more. Fairings and decals in route. Need to find an upholsterer.
